During the opening introductions, did anyone else catch Juan Pierre? He was not a happy Dodger. There were reports that he was upset after losing his starting job and judging the look on his face, I'd have to say homeboy is not happy. That made my day.

There was one bright spot

Off to a great freakin start....
Well, the Giants got the first loss of the season. Got that out of the way. No more need for opening jitters huh? The first of many to come. It all ended with Durham blasting a come-backer to Saito for a easy out. Thats the way the game went. Some crappy defense. No offense. The good news is that Giants will only improve as the season progresses right? Watching this game I kept thinking of that question that keeps coming up and I believe I even posted it once: Did Bruce Bochy know what he was getting into? I can't seem to wrap my mind around it. Why leave a team that contends and has prospects coming up to go to a team with an aging superstar with a massive ego, a team of old timers and nothing in the farm system. Already you hear the whispers of how his job is in jeopardy. How can it be in jeopardy when he has almost nothing to work with. The one bright spot is the pitching and other than watching Barry Zito, I actually enjoy watching these kids pitch. Zito is quickly filling my giant Armando Benitez hole that was made empty when Blownitez graciously departed. Zito basically choked. The Giants really didn't look good at all. Bocock and Roberts almost collide, Rowand overthrowing the cutoff man, Durham dropped a pop up....there was more. Then there was Jeff Kent and his porn-stache. On the bright side, tomorrow the Gigantes bring the heat. I'll stop posting now. I'm getting excited about tomorrow so maybe my outlook will improve!

.....it's almost time.
Less than twenty four hours and I'm actually excited. The Giants named Aurilia to start at first. Whatever. My man Ortmeier will get some hacks. I'm still believing Durham gets off to a pretty good first half and gets dealt. I'm praying the same for Roberts. I'm also mildy amazed the White Sox feel like they got ripped off that nobody wanted Joe Crede. Guillen needs to shut the sunflower hole. Brad Penny and the Dodgers. What else needs to be said. Let the season begin

Checkin' the waiver wire....
Couple of interesting players on waivers:
Ruben Gotay:
Gotay hit .295 with four home runs and 24 RBIs for the Mets last season, filling in after second baseman Jose Valentin was injured. But the Mets traded for second baseman Luis Castillo, then signed Castillo to a long-term deal the offseason. Gotay is only 25 and might be a long term answer once the Giants dump, errrr, trade Durham. Frandsen could move to third or short. Also noticed Edgardo Alfonzo was released by Texas........you know Sabes is thinking about it.

Hey Bruce, got a minute?
This is off the Giants website, the latest quote from Brian Sabean: "We've said from Day 1 that the veterans are going to be responsible for holding down their jobs, if they can," Sabean said. "These other kids are ready. Who knows? It might be as soon as Opening Day. We haven't made any hard and fast decisions. The best players are going to play no matter what contract they have."
Uh, and he said this with a straight face? Thats why Dan Ortmeier got sent down? If it weren't for injuries I would not be excited to see this team play. I'm looking forward to Velez at second and Fred Lewis starting. Of course Castillo isn't a rookie but I am curious how thats gonna shake out. I know what Roberts and Durham can do already. It's the fear of the unknown! I'm the kind of guy that laughs when I see someone bite it while walking or slip right on their arse. Yea, I would probably watch a train wreck and I think I just might be. OH, and one other thing. What the hell was Bruce Bochy thinking of? How hard did he look into the Giants when he left a team that could contend for a team that at best was going to have to rebuild. I don't know if he saw this coming. Who was it that told him that there would be prospects to step in and play? Was he blinded by the pitching the Giants have? Don't get me wrong, deep down I'm a glass is half full of liquour kind of guy but c'mon. Yes, I do have to put a little Ambien in my haterade but do you think Bochy saw that after one season there would be rumblings over his job when he has so little to work with? I like Boch and hope, and think, that he will work some magic.

Well, the good news is.......
....at the rate the Giants are falling apart, we won't have to worry about the June Swoon this year. Just heard over the radio Kevin Frandsen is out for the year. Apparently his achilles. Wow, this is going to be one of those years that will be a measuring stick for the team in future years. It will be one of those teams that at the beginning of a telecast, they'll show a stat on how bad this team is and where it ranks. Along those old Atlanta Braves before the 90's, or the old Detroit Tigers who get my vote for worst team eva! Let me know, who is your pick for worst of the worst!

Jose who???
The Giants websited is stating the Giants picked up a third basement. Jose Castillo. Yea, I don't know either but I like this guy already. I don't care that he got clipped from the freakin' Marlins, this guy is the answer. All we needed was a warm body and we got one. Halle-freakin-lullah! Of course now we get to keep all those pitchers and hopefully the Giants will use at least half a season to evaluate and THEN if needed, make a trade after seeing where Ortmeier, Frandsen, Schierholtz, Velez and some of the others do after they get some at bats. Of course someone needs to slip some Ambien in Magowan and Sabeans frapawhatever so that they don't get antsy once the season gets starting. It will be ugly. But, my personal preference of Billy Crystal at third aside, this was the best move the Giants made all winter. Evaluate Lowry too and if he comes back strong in addition to Durham who I still think is gonna produce, the Gigantes and now trade to a contender and get some prospects or young position players for depth. I am happy. A full bucket of KFC in the fridge and now this. I think this is gonna be a red letter day!

More Crede rumors.....
Signing Joe Crede makes as much sense as waiting in line for four hours to see Celine Dion. As in, myself, actually wanting to see Celine Dion without any underlying motives involving improving my "on-base" average if ya get my drift. I'd have to really have a shot of actually improving my "slugging" percentage for me to want to do that. I again am reading of how Crede is the answer, being "one of the best" third basemen around.........Seriously, people are saying that. The point is, and this is were I finally agree with Brian Sabean, signing Crede will not make a big difference with this team. Signing Barry Bonds won't help this team so how will Crede be any better? Most of all I'm sick of all the ChiSux fans go on and on about how good Crede is. Chicago fan is almost as annoying as Boston fan. Almost. Gotta go, Oprah is coming on, OH, and guess who just happens to be her guest........

What about signing that Bonds kid.....?
Okay, let me just throw this out there. What if the Giants sign Barry Bonds to fill that big bat needed in the lineup? The Giants' mantra of going "young" so far looks like that means a starting lineup that will include Rich Aurilia, Dave Roberts, Bengie Molina, Ray Durham and eventually Omar Vizquel. That means the medicine cabinet won't exactly be filled with Flintstone tablets but maybe Mylanta. Signing Bonds will benefit Ray Durham (who, eh hum, is in a contract year), Roberts and also Aaron Rowand. Getting Durham and Roberts off to good starts would be IDEAL for the Giants if they want to move them. Nate Shierholtz is optioned down to Fresno and would benefit once Durham, Roberts or Aurilia are traded to teams contending and looking for depth. The Giants in return get draft picks or prospects. Putting Barry in that lineup also makes this team a little more intimidating with a middle order of Durham, Bonds and Rowand. Not quite Murderers Row but at least Drunken Disorderly Conduct Drive. Also Barry would be given the chance to retire as a Giant. I know there are other issues, minor things like indictments, grand jurys etc. but since the Giants are not getting younger, they might as well give the Dodgers a run for fourth place. With the pitching the Giants have things would actually be interesting. Of course there is that issue of Barry actually playing outfield, but he could sit out every third game and give Ortmeier or Davis some time.

another Giant rumor.......
This one off the Philadelphia Daily News:
"With 13 days to go before Opening Day, the Phillies are still evaluating their options involving infielder Wes Helms. With utility infielders Greg Dobbs and Eric Bruntlett in the fold, the third baseman appears to be out of a roster spot. The Phillies would like to trade him. Here's one move that seems to make sense: Helms to the Giants for lefthanded pitcher Steve Kline."
ehh, whatever. Wes Helms, Joe Crede, just throw a body over there. If your not serious about signing Billy Crystal, I don't care who you trot to third. Third base always has seemed like a transitional spot for the Giants huh? Of course except when we had Matt Williams. Whatever happened to Chris Brown anyway?

the latest....

This new rumor from Peter Gammons:
Giants scouts are apparently handing out a list to other teams with almost a dozen available players (basically all the veterans). The Giants currently have nine pitchers vying for three bullpen spots.
You have got to be kidding. How's it like being a Giants scout about now? I also read the White Sox apperently thought the Gigants offer of Williamson, Roberts and Messenger for Crede was a joke. They "scoffed." Apperantly the the Dodgers are interested in Crede as well as Inge as well. I can see Crede in Dodger Blue to be honest. The Giants signing Crede makes about as much sense to me as the Pope
and Mel Gibson carpooling to a bar mitzvah together. Start the season already, lets get it over with. I did hear though that Brian Sabean FINALLY realized the futility of trying to compete this year and will stick with the youngsters. I'm going to a Fresno Grizzlies game tomorrow to see exactly what is down there. I still think signing Billy Crystal is a good move!

Giants and Kyle Lohse???
Over on a MLB blog there were rumblings of the Giants going after Kyle Lohse which would be nice but why would we need him? I know Lowry is down for a bit but Misch isn't doing too bad and Merkin Valdez might be able to get his shot. He's doing well so far. It would be nice if they can pick him up though, maybe make a trade for a bat more doable be using Lohse instead of LinceCain.
Anybody been watching Durham lately? Heard him on KNBR and Ray-Ray knows the score. From the sounds of things Ray knows what time it is (contract time, hee hee) so expect Ray to bring it!

Merkin Valdez
A quick summary of Merkin Valdez' progress. In five innings, he has allowed three hits and one run while walking one and striking out five. In Wednesday's appearance against Kansas City, he struck out the side. I know its early but I'm already getting dreams of Lincecum, Cain, Zito, Lowry, Valdez, Correia rotation. A six man rotation! LOL. Can anyone remember the last time the Giants had a glut of good to great pitching???? BTW, who was your favorite Giants pitcher? Growing up mine was Scott Garrelts.

What a Weiner

Some idiot congressman from New York named Anthony Weiner wants the FBI to drop its investigation of Roger Clemens because as he puts it "the FBI has more important matters" to tend to. Thats right. Perjury is no longer a crime. This idiot is a member of Congress and he's saying its okay to lie, under oath, to Congress. WTF?! It's obvious this guy is just pandering for votes as he's planning on running for Mayor of New York. I guess getting elected on his achievements might not be enough huh? Are New Yorkers that stupid? I don't think so but it seems to me this guy thinks just by having a press conference and arguing that Clemens didn't do anything that bad so the FBI should let him go is indicitive of how intelligent he thinks New Yorkers are. Why not just come out with a new slogan, "beans in every pot." That would guarantee the Puerto Rican vote right Weiner? I guess what I've learned most from these hearings is not that drugs are bad or that cheaters never win, it's our elected officials are pretty lame. They lack any kind of moral sense. What else explains the way Congressmens Issa, Burton and some of the others became so star struck that finding the truth was less important than getting photo ops. with the Rocket. This whole thing stinks and I knew getting Congress involved would only ripen the smell. Smells like a Weiner to me.

Pass the Xanax
Why even bother trading ANYONE for Joe Crede? He's a free agent at the end of the season, the Giants can watch him ALL YEAR and see if that back holds up, pitching pitching pitching, the Giants aren't going to win with Crede or without him anyway. Let the youngsters have a full year. I know your reading this Brian Sabean. Grab some garlic fries and sit back and enjoy. Turn off the phone, take a Xanax and just relax. Unless we can somehow get Ryan Howard for, oh, Dave Roberts, just sit back and watch the Giants. (lose). Oh, and goodbye Brett Favre, its been fun watching you.

Jeez!

Oakland - 23 Giants - does it really matter?
Wow. Good thing this type of game isn't gonna happen during the season huh? Games like this are good for tuning up the infield and outfield play. Obviously thats what the Giants were doing. Kind of like a BP session. In any case, it was just a spring training game but if this is in anyway indicitive of our season, I've dusted off my Springfield Isotope cap just in case!
