Zito goes down....

Okay. This is not a good idea. Does anyone else see the train wreck coming? The Giants being the offensive jugger-NOT that they are will be clinging to a 1 or 2 or even 4 run lead. SanchLinceCain will be starting to tire in the 6th or 7th. Bochy comes out to the mound, adjusts his cap, spits a wad then glances over toward the right field fence and points to his left hand. Thats summons number 75. Siete Ocho himself. Do I need to complete this train of thought? How ridiculous is this going to be? Barry Zito is going to pick up where Armando Benitez left off and the Giant brass will trot out their standard phrases of how Barry's about to turn it around or whatever. As long as we are demoting him, why not just keep demoting him and send him down to double A? I know, the contract has alot to do with this but let this be the lesson learned. I can't stomach watching this guy pitch and I like Barry Zito. He was a good pitcher but c'mon. Reliever???? Send him to Seattle. I don't know. Can't he be a "player to be named later" when we ship Dave Roberts to wherever the hell we send him? Remember this spring when the Gigantes were about to sign Byun Hyun Kim? Looking back now that would've been the smart thing to do as long as we let Zito go tweak on his own time. In a season of mild surprises, this is turning an otherwise mildly optimistic season into a real drag. Now, Zito for his part says he made his bed and needs to lay in it but as far as I'm concerned he needs to take some time off. A long time off. This is another example of the Giants and their previous modus operandi. Sign aging veterans and hope for the best. This new Giants incarnation is about the infusion of young blood and the future. Barry Zito is a reminder of a disappointing past.

SanchezCeCain

A 0.69 ERA. Thats what Jonathan Sanchez has over the last seven days. Again. 0.69 ERA. Thats pretty knarly. You could triple that and still have a better ERA than Zito I think. What brightened up my day even more is that the Gigantes are in SECOND place (temporarily of course). It's just a nice way to start a weekend. One of those times right before the wheels come off and things are chugging along. Wonder how those retard ChiSox are reacting to that ERA. All that crap about Sanchez wasn't enough for Crede. HA! Jonathan, for the record, I was against sending you OR Lowry which brings me to my next point. Lowry. He's coming back soon and I have a "gut" feeling he will be pretty good. At least better than Zito and slightly better than Corriea. So with pitching like that and Valdez and Taschner handling relieving, what does this mean for the team? It means they better start hitting the damn ball! The pressure is on the offense and I KNOW placing the ace tag on Zito was more to let Cain go against number 2 guys to help him win. So help Matt win already. This guy has gone through enough already. This season so far is mildly surprising. Of course the June Swoon is on the horizon but for now things are looking nice. Giant fans are having it OUR WAY!

What matters most to me....

....that the Giants have had a nice little WINNING road trip? That Rich Aurillia finally found a new use for his bat? That I can wear my Giants hat and know that the snickers are for some other piece of clothing I may or may NOT be wearing? Nope. It's that the Giants are ahead of the Dodgers. That simple.

game thr....whaa?!?!

geez, you mean all I had to do was bad mouth Richie? His donger puts the Gigantes up and guess what....the Giants could move out of the cellar with a win! Of course they might end back up there tomorrow but lets focus on the positive. Rally Cap - out. Bad mouthing players......Okay, now lets see if I have this figured out.......What does Bowker think he's swinging at? Does this guy belong up here in the bigs??? (c'mon, c'mon)

Game thread

Seriously, why is Aurilia even in there? It's almost painful to watch....

Rajai to A's

Well, I guess I'm glad for Rajai who I kinda liked. Good baserunner, young. What has me miffed is that the Giants didn't trade him for anything....a prospect for AAA would of been nice. I'm not one of those guys who wanted Johnson but it would have been nice to get something. Rajai has a little upside so its not like we waived....oh...say, Dave Roberts. Billy Beene would've gotten about three prospects and an early release DVD of the Lost Boys: the Tribe at least! (It has Corey Feldman...how bad can it be????)

game threat part deux

Another double wasted. Bocock. Boooooocock. The name sticks in your head. Wonder whats on Skinemax.....

Game thread

Game started slow which is good news I suppose. Cain looks okay. Winn hit a nice little double. I'm still wondering why Rajai Davis is gone and Dave Roberts is still with the team.

the Cardinals....

Is it possible to play the Cardinals 88 more times???

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

So how'd the game turnout????

I gotta be honest, as soon as I figured out Zito was on the bump, I didn't even bother. Don't bother, I can pretty much figure out the result......

Giants win!!!!!

Well, if the Giants are going to win any games it will have to be the way they won last night against the Pads. Little to no hitting and great pitching. This, I know, will take some getting used to for us long time Giant fans who became accustomed to the old outscore 'em mentality the Giants had for decades. That enable the Gigantes to bring in a Rick Reuschel or Don Robinson, a Orel Hersishiwhatever, even an El Duque. Pitchers who were up in age and still okay but who's mistakes could be covered by Giants bats. As long as I can remember the Giants have always had a couple of big bats in the lineup and I began following the team when old Jack Clark was the big bat. So this incarnation of Giants baseball is foreign. Great pitching as a strategy. It sound funny doesn't it? After all with a #2-#3 punch of Cain and Lincecum, are there better 2 and 3 men in the league? Yea, I know, but forget about Zito for a moment. Last nights game sent me to bed with a smile on my face and dammit, I'll admit it. I still have hope. Also, Dave Robers has been diagnosed with condromalatia. I don't know how he got it but I assume there is a topical cream to put on it. Most sailors I hear get it in the Philipines. In any case this means more playing time for Fred Lewis and my man Dan. So we are left with Durham and Aurilia as the gray bushers left. Durham I'm still hoping will catch fire so we can trade him and I think I'm content to hang on to Aurilia. I like Rich. I'm also glad to see Mr. Sabean practicing some restraint amidst all the hullabaloo regarding Helms or Dan Johnson or whatever his name is. I don't mind the team signing them after they get released but Brian Sabean is showing his restraint by holding on to the pitchers and I think he deserves a Giant hug. He might not be a total idiot after all. Noah Lowry is due back so it seems this team is waiting to see how things shake out. This might be the "Vicodin bottle is half full" in me coming out but I think the Giants have a run in them. Exactly how far that run gets them is the question. For that kind of optimism would require both vicodin and xanax. But I have at least forgotten about my calls of signing Billy Crystal or Chuck Norris for third base. Although I think Chuck would make an outstanding third base coach. He'd be a good motivator for the Giants. After all, its a fact there is no chin under Chucks beard, only another fist. Whatever, I'm just stoked the Giants are in the midst of a 2 game win streak and the Detroit Tigers are still around to take the baseball eyes of the Giants.

Nope, our luck still sucks...

While checking the blogs for any Giants news I stumbled across this:

11:14am: Susan Slusser believes first baseman Dan Johnson's Oakland career might be over, as the A's need a roster spot for rookie starter Greg Smith. Speculation is that Billy Beane could try to trade him to the Giants, where he'd be free to play regularly and bat in the middle of the order.

Johnson, 28, has a .249/.344/.419 career line in 318 games. He was a late bloomer, earning a September call-up in '04 as a 25 year-old. He didn't appear in any big league games because of vertigo, though.

WTF. Vertigo. Thats just what a guy suffering from vertigo needs. To go to a team in a free fall. I did get a chance to see this guy play and was mildly entertained I guess. But vertigo? I also remember somewhere hearing he had double vision. That reminds me of that old joke of the drunk guy who sees double and is told to hit the guy in the middle. Maybe thats what the Giants need, vertigo. Just tell em to hit the ball in the middle.

Some Bright Spots

lol. Nobody gets my humor these days. Welllll, on the Gigante front a couple milestones to start the year in my week in review recap:

Bengie Molina hit the first Giants homerun......the last team in the league to do so.

The Giants did manage to win one game against the Dodgers in a game that saw Merkin Valdez start and Tim Lincecum out of the bully.

I got to see my man Tyler Walker, which is a good thing and I'm rooting for the guy.

The Giants looked pretty bad at times defensively.

You know, I know its to soon into the season but watching Valdez pitch really bodes well for the Giants. In addition to LinceCain, we might have to update that to ValLinceCain, or MerkCeCain or whatever. Nothing is going to sound as good as Brangelina but you get the idea. With a lineup of Cain, Lincecum, Valdez, Correia and eventually Lowry, how the hell does Zito figure on being the "ace". I feel for the guy but I don't think he's got it. Its entering the "crafty vet" stage of his career and as soon as the Giants start hitting and giving poor Matt Cain some run support, THATS the guy that should be the ace. I know I've covered this but its a recap. Anyway, all in all it was pretty much what I expected but for some reason, theres a glimmer of optimism in me that this time might not finish last. It was good to see some of the old Giants also. Got to see one of my favorites of all time, Hac-Man Leonard. Boy the Giants could use him now. The Giants are not exactly the Jessica Simpsons of the league but by no means are they the fat bald hairy guy also. They have potential! I think.

18 Million a year......

At some point in the near future that 18 mil is gonna be the difference between keeping a young player like Cain, Lincecum, Velez, Lewis or whoever and the Giants aren't gonna have it. Why? Well, because 18 million a year goes to a guy who throws 82 mph AROUND the strike zone and likes to "tweak". I think Sabean was tweaking when he signed him. I am quickly starting to dislike Zito almost as much as I did Armando Sucknitez and thats saying alot. Barry needs to go to the Giants and for the good of the team RENEGOTIATE the deal. Maybe put some incentives in case he finds whatever mechanical tweak he's looking for. Bottom line is he sucks and the Giants need to either trade him or get that contract reworked. Barry needs to be responsible and man up. Stop TWEAKIN, get his shakra's in order, switch to decaf, whatever he needs to do to start winning. How the hell he can look in the mirror? Does he look in the mirror and see "Ace"? When I see him on the mound I see about 200 lbs. of grade a chuck MEAT. If the Giants really wanted a curveballer we should have given Morris the money. Don't get me wrong, I know Zito has a "deuce" like no other, but dude needs to start studying the Magnus Effect again and lay off the incense. Does he still carry that pink satin pillow or whatever it was? Someone slip a picture of Chuck Norris under his pillow so he can man up! Chuck would never stand for this. Planet Zito needs to bring the slurve. Do something. Try an enema. Red Bull. I DON'T CARE, JUST START SLURVING STRIKES!
