State of the Giants...

Well, we haven't yet made it to mid season but now would be a good time for some reflection on the state of the team. What got me thinking were the reports of Peter Magowan possible stepping down. Of course nobody has come out to say this is going to happen but the fact that its out there I think speaks volumes. Magowan came in and promised to make the Giants contend regardless of price and promptly signed a guy named Bonds. Of course he never did bring home the World Series he promised but came oh so close. So now that the Gigantes have plotted a new course to go "small ball" so to speak and rebuild, why bail out now? And more importantly, why extend Brian Sabean's contract like he did? IF and when he sells the Giants, how will the new owner feel about the state of this team? A team without a marquee player, offensive that is. A farm system with a few prospects but no sure shot guarantee. How long before he gives Sabean the green light to do what Sabes does best.......goodbye Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum, Merkin Valdez and so on. Hello Man-Ram, Richie Sexson, Armando Benitez.....hahah just kidding. (I hope). My point is, Brian Sabean given the opportunity can rebuild this team into a contender but at a cost. A new owner may not want to wait three seasons. The one ray of hope is that Magowan being the Giant historian and fan that he is may try to sell the team to a person who cares about the Giants......almost as much as a profit. I'm one of the glass is half full guys but there are few of us around but hopefully any new owners will have caught a few games and seen Burriss, Velez, Cain and company. Maybe this will give them enough optimism to adopt a wait and see. Anyone heard anything else????
